With the first snowflakes in late autumn, a new winter fairy tale begins every year in Obertauern. Snow-covered peaks and a majestic natural landscape, covered by a white blanket, provide a unique backdrop from November to May. The abundant natural snow is thanks to a special weather constellation in the Tauern, where snow clouds from the north and south meet and generously distribute the white flakes over Obertauern. According to a study published in 2016, Obertauern leads the ranking of the seven snowiest winter sports resorts in Austria with an average maximum snow depth of 264 centimeters.
