THE MINISTRY OF SNOW SAFETY

In the heart of the Austrian Alps, deeply hidden from the public eye, there is a secret ministry that only a few insiders know about. This Secret Ministry for Snow Safety decides the fate of the winter season in the country. At its head is a man of great determination who ensures that his winter sports resorts are supplied with sufficient amounts of snow: Minister and privy counsellor Honoris causa Alois Westhamthaler. Every year, he and his dubious experts try to make sure that the winter season is a good one in a sometimes unscrupulous manner. Only this time, they did not consider that they have to deal with the head lift operator, Johnny Schneeweiß!

Privy counsellor honoris causa Alois Westhamthaler has not been Minister for Snow Safety for long but has been in Austrian politics for a long time.

He knows how vital snow is for his region. His family members have always had significant influence as bankers. With the help of the big silver spoon, Alois has also come a long way. Good old money takes care of what can't be done by laws and words. But if the snow doesn't come, the problem he and his ministry face cannot be solved with money, words or tantrums.

Johnny Schneeweiß is a sixth-generation lift operator. When he's not busy making sure his guests have a smooth day of skiing, he loves to tell tourists stories about Austria's snowiest winter sports resort.

Obertauern. For him, Leberkäse is not just food but a religion. He can proudly claim to have tasted over 300 different types of Leberkäse in various butcher's shops in Austria.

Melanie feels right at home in the mountains. She dropped out of her geography degree when she fell in love with the mountains after an excursion to Austria. She is now a seasoned ski guide of the "old school". Not only that, but she hopes to expand her influence in the Ministry for Snow Safety and would do almost anything to climb the hierarchy.

Chief Inspector Plamberger would like to be a go-getter, but he only became a post commander in the end. The only time anything happens is during ski season, which he always looks forward to with great excitement: lost ski equipment, bar brawls and tourists stuck in the snow without snow chains.

Professional hunter Sepp has been hunting for as long as he can remember. All his male ancestors and descendants were and are hunters. He has never really left his village. And why should he? Home is and remains the best place to be. His wife is responsible for organising all the village festivals and wins the "Cream Slice of the Year" award yearly. He is proud of that. What irritates him is that he has never made it onto the cover of the young hunter's calendar. When he wants to unwind, he goes to the regulars' table in Rosi's lodge. He delivers most of his trophies to her. He also relies on tourism in the village to keep the forest running and his green pockets full. Too many regulations and laws would make hunting more difficult, but they apply a little less to him anyway.

Sibylle, 35, ambitious, master’s degree in tourism management. Since taking the position of chief assistant to the Minister for Snow Safety, she hopes to finally find the impetus to lead a more adventurous life. Her idea of adventure is limited to wearing her hair down on a Tuesday instead of in a tight plait. However, she will soon experience an adventure of a magnitude she could never have imagined.
